It was on 16th of august 1968 the Munsiff court Ganderbal came to be inaugurated and established . it was housed in part of the then Tehsil office Ganderbal- Beehama. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by justice Janki Nath Bhat [of Muran Pulwama]. Several Munsiff courts came to be established in that month and year as the judiciary was separated from executive. The judicial powers of the tehsildars were taken away and only Executive powers remained with them. Land for the court complex was purchased at a distance of about 200 mtrs in Beehama from the then Tehisil office. Court building and residential quarter came to be constructed and the court was shifted to the newly constructed building in the year 1972. The building was inaugurated at a glittering function by Justice Syed Murtaza Fazal Ali [ the then Chief Justice of J&K High Court]. The jurisdiction of the court extended over whole of the Tehsil Ganderbal starting from Buchpora extending upto Bal Tal. It included two revenue estates from Tehsil Srinagar, that is Gadoora and Haran. Several judges of the high court including chief justices who off and on visited the Ganderbal court for inspection and for various functions include Justice Mufti Bahav-u-Din, Justice Mian Jalla Din, Justice Rizvi, Justice Raja Jasvant singh, Justice Anand, Justice Janji and Justice Saraf. Most of them became the Chief Justice of of J&K high court and some of them were elevate to Supreme court of India and even Justice Anand became the Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India. Munsiff court Kangan was established in Oct 1996 after carving out the territory from Haripora upto Baltal out of the old Tehsil Ganderbal. After the formation of new districts, court of Sub judge and the Court of Principal District & Sessions Judge Ganderbal was created. The first Principal District & Sessions Judge Ganderbal took over on 27.05.2008 and the first CJM/ sub Judge Ganderbal took over on 28.05.2008. The first Munsiff/ JMIC Ganderbal happened to be Qazi Mohammad Muzaffarudin. The first Munsiff/JMIC Kangan was Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Mir. The first principal District & Sessions Judge Ganderbal was Mr. Nazir Fida and first Sub Judge/ CJM was Masarat Rouhi. Justice Virendar Singh visited the district court Ganderbal several times and as even held Lok Adalat at Ganderbal. It was in 2011 that Chief justice F.M Kalifula and Justice virendar Singh inaugurated Legal Aid Clinic at Manigam in a grand and largely attended function organized by Principal District & Sessions Judge Ganderbal Mr. Syed Tawqeer Ahmad. The Court came to be shifted to its present place 11 november 2011 due to stannous efforts of Principal District & Sessions Judge Mr. Tawqeer Ahmad in collaboration with Bar Association Ganderbal. In this connection the assistance and facilitations rendered by Hon’ble Ministers Mian Altaf Ahmad and Ali Mohammad sagar have been highly commended by the people of Ganderbal. The general masses also appreciated the large hearted action and approval given by Hon’ble Chief minister Mr. Omar Abdullah to the shifting of court to its present location. The bar, the litigant public and the people of Ganderbal pin their hope in the Hon’ble chief Minister who is radiant, Vibrant youth will definitely be large hearted for providing funds for various buildings, residential Quarters, Bar rooms and Lawyer chambers and other needs in the court complex.
